Rules
Rules (2008 - 2010)

  1. The Challenge is restricted to the Intermediate sections at the qualifying events only (OI,AI & CIC sections are not included).
  2. Points will be awarded to the rider - not the horse.
  3. Riders can compete at all or a minimum of two qualifying events to be eligible for the final at Highclere Castle, but not necessarily on the same horse.
  4. Cumulative points will be awarded to the riders coming in the first six places in each qualifying section at each event (12 to the winner; 10 for 2nd place; 8 for 3rd place; 6 for 4th place; 4 for 5th place and 2 for 6th place.) At the final at Highclere Castle double points will be awarded.
  5. Riders with two or more qualifying entries at any one event will only be allowed to carry forward the points collected on the horse with the highest placing.
  6. For a horse to qualify for the Final it must be at Intermediate level at the commencement of the Wilton Horse Trials. If a horse is at Advanced level before Wilton all points collected previously will carry forward with the rider who may ride any other Intermediate horse to stay in the Challenge.
  7. The Final and Prize Giving will be at Highclere Castle on Bank Holiday Monday. In the event of a dead heat the rider finishing the X-C at Highclere nearest to the optimum time will be the winner.
  8. A first prize of £5,000 will be given by Mitsubishi Motors. Other prizes include a 3 day Novice course of polo lessons at the Tidworth Polo Club; entry tickets and lunch in a private box on Gold Cup day at the Cheltenham Festival; a Gauntlett Sporting clay pigeon shooting day for 4 people; a champagne reception for 12 people at Highclere Castle; a bronze sculpture of a horse given by Style Products; Taittinger champagne and Olympic Horse Feeds supplements.
  9. The organisers reserve the right to modify the rules if necessary.
